How to find cheaper hotels

Everyone seems to be looking for cheap hotels these days. Whether its Manchester or London, New York or Chicago people are looking to save those few extra pennies off any potential hotel room. There are some obvious factors involved in the price of a hotel room and a few not so apparent. Here is a quick guide to help you.

One of the largest factors is when your booking is made. Its not so simple as just booking early as for many hotels the really cheap rooms appear when they are well below capacity and they need to sell rooms to break even. At the same time booking before a large event such as a sporting occasion can be very costly.

The key is to anticipate when a hotel is likely to be under booked. This can usually happen after a major holiday or event when many people are departing the city. For example if you book after the summer holidays eg in September you can make huge savings as most people are unable to take out their children from school for a holiday.

Another money saving point to consider is strange dates. Most hotels for example charge less for a room at the start of the week, usually Wednesday to Sunday. Therefore, for the same money you can get a far more luxurious room. On the flipside, this could work to your advantage as the native attractions too could be charging less for these days as too.

If you have Internet access you can always make use of the comparison websites. These are slightly slow and can be tedious but they are an excellent way to save some money. During my time using these websites I found it best to keep with one as they're all pretty much the same, they all give similar discounts with the operators.

You also want to test with different locations of hotels. We all know that hotels are much more costly closer to the city centre. However with a little practice and by keeping google maps handy you can often find hotels that are quite close to the centre but nowhere near as expensive as legit city centre lodgings.

Do you really need the gym and other facilities? Don't book a hotel with lots of snazzy add-ons unless you're adamant you're going to make use of them. The final fee is always bolstered by the availability of additions such as gyms, swimming pools and tennis courts. If you don't plan to take advantage of something simply go without it and save some money.

I know many people dislike bartering over the telephone but in the case of independent hotels you might find yourself able to talk a good deal if you are persistent. Its less likely with a large hotel, these have fixed rates and tend not to speak on individual terms. Personally run businesses are way more approachable though. Give it a try, you might learn a new skill you were unaware you had.

As you can see, saving money on hotel fees is certainly possible with a little pre planning and thinking.

The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas

During my recent trip to Las Vegas I stayed at the Mirage Hotel. This hotel is owned by the MGM company. The property is decorated beautifully and is worth the money. My stay was perfect. I would say that if you are going to book this property, however, just pay for the standard, don't go for the upgraded room unless you are getting suite. Check out the Secret Garden while you are there.

If you are choosing this property don't pay the extra money for the room with the jetted tub on floors 24 and 25. The tub is nice, but the rooms are much smaller than the standard room. I would say you have about a 25-50 percent chance of a strip view, but I think they charge extra for that.

The Secret Garden is a habitat for white tigers, a white lion, and dolphins. I believe the admission was around twenty dollars per person. It is a really neat thing to see. You get up close to the animals, and never have I seen a place where the trainers are so friendly and will tell you everything about their animals. Right now they have five tiger cubs and 2 baby dolphins.

The hotel decor is that of tropical destinations. They have palm trees and such through out. The also have a Beatle's nightclub called Revolution that is neat. They have many stores within the hotel in case you need to shop. They are located right at Center Strip which gives you easy access to everything. There is a liquor store across the street that will save you money on buying drinks. There is also a Volcano show but we had no time to see it, we did see the Pirate show next door at Treasure Island.

I give this hotel a thumbs up, or five stars. If you want to stay in a good location on the strip, the Mirage should be one of your options. Like I said though, just book the standard, I think it is more of a value when it comes to space.
