It's up to you to decide what you want to occupy yourself with in your spare time, but if I were to offer advice, I'd say go for something specific. Don't try to be a jack-of-all-trades, as this will only make you a master of none. Being highly skilled at one or few things is better than being mediocre at a lot of things. Collect figures of dogs or train parrots to talk. Pick a few to concentrate on first.
One of the more intriguing hobbies that I've seen is the collection of your own crafts. It doesn't matter what these crafts are; as long as you put time and effort towards it?s making and perfecting them, you are sure to be proud of them when the time comes. Although, as a bit of advice, try to stick to small crafts if you don't want your home overcrowded with crafts.
When you have a pretty decent number of your own crafted items, you may get it into your head to show off your collection to other people. Recognition is simply a need that is common to everyone, akin to the way most people are afraid of negative comments. This is the reason a lot of artisans only show their works to close family and friends. As they'll only deliver sugarcoated words of praise, you won't be able to improve your art.
Don't fall for that. In the end, the most rewarding thing about making and collecting crafts of a similar theme is that you get to see people you don't know to appreciate them. Don't be afraid of the criticisms; if anything, they will help you improve your craft. So, whenever you're ready, show off those crafts in one of the many craft shows!
