If you are thinking of travelling long distances in Cuba it could be a bit too expensive if you use private transfers. Taxi transfers or private transfers is what most of the travel agents selling Cuba itineraries will put on holiday packages quoted.
Allow me please to introduce you to Viazul. A bus company that has very confortable coaches and terminals spread all over Cuba.
So let?s compare prices. Let?s take a transfer from Trinidad to Havana. Havana and Trinidad is one combination that will be present on almost every tailor made itinerary. A private taxi from Trinidad to Havana will cost you anything from 160 GBP to 180 GBP and a ticket with Viazul cost just 20 GBP.
I hope you can appreciate how ridiculous the difference in price is. Now think how much you could safe if you were to go all around the island using this advice. You could be saving hundreds on pounds.
Viazul service is very punctual and the coaches are very restful. The only problem is that you will have to book it locally in Cuba and also that you will have to be at the station 1 hour prior to departure.
The majority of the people that are considering travelling to Cuba do not know how large this island truly is. Cuba extends for over 1200 kms from east to west. Travelling from Pinar del Rio to Guantanamo can take about 18 hours driving.
I will of course recommend you to take taxis if what you want is total comfort and relaxation and if money is not an issue but if you want to save good money then Viazul is the best and only option you will have.
