Southport is a seaside town situated on the English North West coast. Tourist attractions include, Southport Pier, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Lord Street, Hesketh Park, Wayfarers' Arcade and more. Lord Street is Southport's main shopping street. All down one side of Lord Street the paving stones are covered by exquisite Victorian iron work together with a line of deciduous trees closer to the road. On the other side of the road you will discover small areas of gardens, garden beds, fountains and a bandstand. Right in the heart of Lord Street is more than likely the most incredible war monuments in the United Kingdom with an obelisk in the middle and two further memorials on each side which feature huge columns. Some of the finest of Southport's architecture is to be found along Lord Street and it is where you will discover the Victorian Wayfarers' Arcade.
At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family and like Lord Street it is heavily wooded. Hesketh Park also has wonderful flower beds, hidden gardens, a play park, glass house and more but most prominent is the lovely lake.
Another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens, are to be found in Churchtown which features a a long expanse of water set out to appear rather like a river which features boats for hire, an ornate bridge, ducks, swans and other wildlife and if you enjoy animals and birds the gardens also has a tiny zoo, just across the way from the museum and cafe. Churchtown village is a lovely number of old fishermen's cottages, cottages and houses most of which are white and a few feature a roof of thatch. It is crucial that you take a walk around and that you look around carefully as there are one or two hidden areas well worth the trouble to discover.
Finding bed and breakfast in Southport is relatively easy with a wide number of guest houses and hotels in Southport taking reservations online. There are hotels for all tastes and budgets from cheap and cheerful to luxurious in the town centre and outside.
