How do you spell fun in the South -- BBQ. Anywhere you go, from the big city to the smallest country community, you will find a barbecue establishment of some kind. Undoubtedly also, each will be labeled as the self proclaimed "Best Barbecue in Texas!" The atmosphere may slightly vary, but you can expect brushed steel and wood decor, a hickory smoked aroma, and lively country music.
The sole purpose of the visit, however, being the food, is quite varying from pork, beef, and chicken drenched in the most savory of barbecue flavors. If you prefer a kick of spicy, sweetness of honey glaze, or classic hickory savor, all meats and sauces are accounted for in any choice of location for your barbecue experience. I was surprised to find when I moved to Texas, that even the most elegant of occasions and events are centered around a banquet of barbecue.
Barbecue could have little success if it weren't for one of Texas' greatest assets in beef. Miles and acres of unending livestock herds are a common scene driving across the state. This land of roaming cattle produces the most delicious meat in the country.
Even if you don't prefer barbecued animals, nothing beats the tenderness of a melting juicy steak in your mouth. Texas steakhouses also sufficiently dot the state. May I suggest a medium grilled sirloin wherever you choose to go, for the perfect tenderness and sufficient doneness that constitutes a perfect dinner delight.
Texas also has a lucky connection so close to the border which has given birth to a fascinating genre of food that only exists here as TexMex. The further south you travel, perhaps to San Antonio at least, the hispanic culture has authentically romanticized the food here. Warm tortillas, fresh salsa, and explosive flavors lull us away in this perfect union of Mexican style food made by the Texan grown culture.
Speaking of produce, Texas can be very proud of the acres and acres of land that serve as the breeding ground for succulent fruits and vegetables. My favorite being peaches. There is a reason that peach cobbler is best in the South.
The climate and humidity of Texas allow peaches to thrive. Our backyard gives home to our very own peach tree to satisfy our peach craving every summer season. In fact, there isn't anyone in the neighborhood who doesn't look forward to this season, and my family bringing over paper bags full plentifully of peaches.
The land and humidity here in Texas are not always so unbearable. They bring forth the great fruits of quite enjoyable eating. Livestock, fruits, and vegetables all have a happy home grown in Texas. Any traveller will gorge with substantial delight in any of the unique culinary creations that all Texans should be proud of.
