Building An Authoritative Travel Blog

Authoritative blogs seem all the rage at the moment but what exactly is an " Authoritative Travel Blog ?" Well my understanding of the matter is it is a blog that is not only very informative to the readers but that the information comes from authoritative type people in connection with what they are writing about.

Hopefully my articles below will give an insight on travel and travel related experiences from all over the world from many authoritative writers as they have been there and done that.

Articles will be and are published often and this means current travel experiences and up to date places to visit. If you have also visited these places or wish to comment then please do so remembering this blog is intended to family orientated visitors so please be respectful.

I have seen many fears raised through my article site and feel that any traveller today that, for one reason or another, decides against travel insurance then they are possibly being a little short sighted. We do not want our boats to sink but are happy to carry life rafts. travel insurance is a similar idea. We do not wish to ever claim on it but if things go wrong as they sometimes do it is a benifit to have the insurance.

Banned Items That You May Not Have Thought of Before You Fly

By Brian Shortt

When you think of items that are banned on airplanes, what first comes to mind? If you were like most individuals you would say sharp objects. Of course, sharp objects are banned on all airlines, but did you know that there is a long list of other items. In fact, many of these items are items that you may have never given thought to before. If you are gearing up to take a flight; it is advised that you give these items some though.

You should know the difference between carry on and checked luggage, before you learn more about prohibited items. Your checked baggage is the baggage that will be stored on the airplane, out of your reach. The luggage that you carry and keep with you at all times is your carry on. When examining items that are prohibited aboard an airplane, it is important to remember that some items are not completely banned. While a large number of items may not be allowed in your carry on luggage, there are other some that will be allowed in your checked luggage.

Recently, in 2006, a new ban was imposed; that ban is on liquids. Due to recent security threats, a large number of liquids are now banned from being stored in your carry on luggage. These liquids commonly include, beverages, liquid or gel based beauty supplies, and food with a liquid or gel based substance. Despite the new ban, there are a few exceptions. Those exceptions include small doses of medication, small doses of eye drops or saline solution, and small amounts of baby formula.

In the event that you are vacationing to play sports, such as golf, you will need to check your golf clubs and other sports equipment, no matter how much you want to keep them by your side. Prohibited sports items, which cannot be used as carry on luggage, include bows, arrows, bats, golf clubs, ski poles, pool cues, hockey sticks, and lacrosse sticks. If your sports equipment is expensive, you will want to make sure that it is probably packed, to prevent damage.

There are a majority of tools that are also banned from being included as carry on luggage. Some tools such as screwdrivers and pliers, are allowed, but they must be no longer than seven inches. If you are traveling with saws hammers and drills these should be packed in your checked baggage.

As previously mentioned, most sharp objects are prohibited aboard most airplanes. The only exception is scissors that are have blades shorter than four inches. These items can be stored in your checked baggage, but they are not be allowed aboard the plane in your carry on luggage.Knives, box cutters ice picks swords are example of what to check in as check baggage.

If you planning to travel with the above mentioned items you need to plan ahead. It is very important that you pack the above items in your checked baggage. You will not be able to pass through security until your bags have been checked. If you are caught with a prohibited item in your carry on luggage, in most cases, it will be too late to have that item rechecked. You will most likely end up having to hand it over to airport security, never to see your item again. When it doubt, check it or leave it at home. This is the best way to ensure that you do not lose anything of great value.
