Building An Authoritative Travel Blog

Authoritative blogs seem all the rage at the moment but what exactly is an " Authoritative Travel Blog ?" Well my understanding of the matter is it is a blog that is not only very informative to the readers but that the information comes from authoritative type people in connection with what they are writing about.

Hopefully my articles below will give an insight on travel and travel related experiences from all over the world from many authoritative writers as they have been there and done that.

Articles will be and are published often and this means current travel experiences and up to date places to visit. If you have also visited these places or wish to comment then please do so remembering this blog is intended to family orientated visitors so please be respectful.

I have seen many fears raised through my article site and feel that any traveller today that, for one reason or another, decides against travel insurance then they are possibly being a little short sighted. We do not want our boats to sink but are happy to carry life rafts. travel insurance is a similar idea. We do not wish to ever claim on it but if things go wrong as they sometimes do it is a benifit to have the insurance.

Exchanging Currencies for Travel Abroad

By Graham Winborne

When traveling to foreign countries, travelers need to think about how and when they will convert their currency. Luckily, there are many options for travelers to choose from when it comes time to make the exchange. There are two major factors to look at when exchanging currency: the exchange rate and the amount of commission charged.

Travelers are often fooled into exchanging for the lowest rate, while being charged a high rate of commission on their transaction. The strength of the US dollar is an important concern when planning to pay for a trip. When the dollar is losing strength, it is best not carry the dollar. Also, if the dollar is losing strength, try to pay for expenses such as airfare and hotels in advance. This way, the large expenses are paid for when the dollar is at its potentially highest point, therefore benefiting you the most in terms of expense. Find out what the current exchange rate is at www.gocurrency.com.

Exchanging Currencies While Still in the States

While still in the states, travelers can exchange their currency at the local bank. Although this may seem to be a convenient way to prepare for your vacation, the costs associated with exchanging in this way can be large. Also, there are several online venues which allow you to pay American funds, and the currency you desire is then sent to your home. These sites generally offer decent exchange rates but charge fees and delivery charges. With these services, there is also the risk that the company is fraudulent or that the currency could be stolen while in transit. Exchanging a currency through this online medium may seem convenient, but be sure to weigh the risks involved.

Exchanging at Hotels and Airports

Your best bet is to exchange currency once you get to the country you'll be staying in. Your hotel may offer an exchange service, and once again, this may seem like a convenient alternative, but watch out. Hotels may charge fees of 20% or more to exchange currency, so try to stay away from hotel exchanges unless it is an emergency. Use one of the three free currency converters to find out how much extra your hotel is willing to charge you. Airports also offer an exchange, but as with hotel exchanges, airports tend to make a good deal of money off of the exchange.

Credit Cards

Many people travel abroad planning to put the majority of the charges on their credit card. Although credit cards generally offer the best exchange rates, you must be careful about using credit cards when the strength of the dollar is falling. Credit card transactions are not immediate, so when the dollar is falling you could end up with a less favorable exchange rate due to the time it takes for transactions to post. We recommend Canadian Credit Cards and Canadian Balance transfer credit cards with Travel Rewards Capabilities.

Don't Want to Carry Large Amounts of Cash?

If you don't feel like carrying cash all the time, ATM's are a convenient way to get foreign currencies. ATM's generally offer a good exchange rate, and are located in many places. One thing to consider before deciding to use an ATM to get cash is what fee your bank charges for withdrawing money abroad. These fees will add up, especially if you plan on using an ATM many different times throughout your trip.

Another alternative to cash is to bring travelers checks with you. Travelers checks can be replaced if they are lost or stolen, and can be used at exchanges to get the currency of the country you are in.

Banks

Another logical place to look to exchange currency is at banks. The exchange rate at banks is usually pretty good, although a bank has two alternatives as to what rate to provide. In some banks, the exchange rate depends on the supply and demand of the currency, and with this system, you end up with an exchange rate fairly close to the ones being offered in major exchanges. The second option is that the government of the country you are traveling sets the exchange rate, and all exchanges must stick to that rate. In either case, banks do offer a convenient way to exchange currency without incurring a large amount of costs.

No matter what way you plan on exchanging your money, be sure to bring along a list of current exchange rates. These rates can be found online or in many major newspapers. With this information in hand, you can judge where the best rates are being offered.

Balinese Hospitality at Amanusa Resort

By Chris Linch

Amanusa resort promises a tranquil place to relax and unwind and its location could not be more suited to that. The hotel is lovingly placed between the tropical greenery of Bali on one side, and the hypnotically blue of the Indian Ocean on the other.

Amanusa draws upon several sources to create their magical setting: One is the Balinese tradition of spirituality in all things, the second is the physical beauty of the island, the third is the Balinese hospitality, and the final is western amenities.

The resort may feel as if it in another world, but shopping, dining and cultural diversions are nearby in the bougainvillea-lined streets of Nusa Dua. The airport is just 15 minutes away.

To assist in a quick transition to Balinese tranquility, the resort provides massage therapists on site for in-room treatments. An exquisitely manicured golf course is within view, temptingly close between the resort and the nearby Indian Ocean.

Of course, dining well is an important part of any luxury experience, and Amanusa does not disappoint. There are four restaurants at the resort offering Thai, Indonesian, Italian, and western selections. The dining ranges from elegant to al fresco, but all of the venues make the most of the tropical setting and breathtaking views.

The white-sand beach is one of Bali's best and is fringed by a coral reef that provides a safe lagoon for swimming and seasonal water sports.

The resort has a Beach Club at the Bali Golf and Country Club. The Club features nine bale' (pavilions) with loungers. Refreshments, showers and restrooms are available.

Amanusa's massage therapists mix traditional Balinese massage with Swedish massage and acupressure. Massage is available in the privacy of guest' suites, in the specially designated Spa Suite or on one of the Beach bales. Body treatments as well as facials, pedicures and manicures are also available. Amanusa's Reiki master is on hand to redress any energy imbalances and a reflexologist is available once a week.

Bali is paradise for golfers. The three courses are totally unique. All are complementary for Amanusa guests. The first is the Bali Golf and Country Club and is right next to the resort in a scenic, seaside setting. It was designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, is 18 holes and named on of Asia's top five courses. The second is the Nirwana Bali Golf Club. This course is at the Tabana Regency, on the west coast, about an hour's drive from the resort. The course was designed by Greg Norman, and is famous for its visually dramatic setting. Golfers play through rice paddies, creeks, tropical forest, and gardens. The final course is about 1 hour away. The Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club is famous as one of the world's most beautiful courses. The course was designed by Peter Thomson and Graham Wolveridge and is set in an extinct volcano.

The 35 thatched-roof suites have wooden four-poster beds, draped in white fabric. The huge bathrooms feature sunken baths. Each suite is enclosed in a sensuous tropical setting and an outdoor shower is built into a high paras-stone wall, draped in soft moss and fragrant white flowers beneath an overhang of ochre and salmon-pink bougainvillea. The walled garden courtyards are private and romantic, offering day and night alfresco dining. Every suite has an outdoor terrace with a comfortable daybed beneath a protective canopy. Elevated walkways link the suites for easy access to the resort's extensive facilities and eight suites have private swimming pools. Wireless broadband connections are available in all suites and public areas.

Seattle: The Emerald City

By Chris Linch

Everybody knows Seattle is a cool city. What I didn't realize was how beautiful Seattle is. And definitely worth a visit. The residents are friendly and interesting. And if you go during the summer and early fall, the rain that gives the city its nickname is not in evidence. The city is hilly, and the easiest way to get around is to walk, so bring your walking shoes.

One "must see" is the Pike Place Fish Market. There are a lot of stalls and booths in the market with incredible produce and flowers, but the one that draws the crowds is the famous "flying fish" seller. Made famous by corporate motivational speakers and the tourist bureau, the stand's attraction is a group of witty, zany employees who literally fling fish at each other and the crowds. The fish are huge, as are the crowds, and the interaction is a great way to start your day.

Right across the street is the first Starbuck's Coffee, which is worth visiting for the delicious aroma alone. The coffee scent has permeated the creaking old floors and wooden counters and the cozy ambiance is everything a coffee house should be. There is quite literally a coffee house on every corner in Seattle, and still this one is special.

The most iconic symbol of Seattle (aside from the coffee mug) is the Space Needle. This landmark was built for the Worlds Fair of 1962. It's 605 feet high, and there is a taller building now, but you have to visit the Needle for the premier views of Seattle it's environs. If its clear, the views of Mount Ranier are worth the trip. She (Seattleites call the mountain "she" as in "she is out today") floats like a benevolent guardian over the city.

Right below the Needle is the Seattle Music Experience, housed in a Gehry - designed guitar shaped building. The Music Experience Project Museum offers music memorabilia (especially that of Jimi Hendrix), music labs, and hands on interactive exhibits. Great for teens and budding rock stars.

Pioneer Square is the heart of the original downtown area, and well worth a (daytime) visit. One of the best bookshops in America, Elliott Bay Bookstore is located there. A wonderful warren of nooks and books, spend a few minutes browsing in one of the last bookstores with character. But the real attraction is the Seattle Underground. When most of the downtown area burned in the Great Fire of 1889, Seattle decided to rebuild in brick, and two stories above the original street level to prevent flooding. The criminal element of the city quickly moved in to the old storefronts underground, and a subterranean city of bars and brothels quickly sprang up. You can still tour this fascinating underground world several times daily.

There are two great tour operators in town.

1) Tour Seattle at your own pace with a hop-on, hop-off Double Decker buses. Get on and off at seven different stops around the city and explore at your leisure.

2) A stranger option is Duck Tours of Seattle. A 'duck" is an amphibious craft that the company uses to take guests through downtown and then onto nearby Union Lake. Union Lake is where the house from "Sleepless in Seattle" is located, as well as some of the ships from "Deadliest Catch". The tour operators are crazy, and if your dignity is important, this is not the tour for you. If you are looking for a fun, 90 minute tour, see www.ridetheducksof seattle.com. Prices are about 25.00 adult and 15.00 child. Open daily.

To make the most of the Great Northwest, plan at least one outdoor activity. One inexpensive and easy option is to ride one of the commuter ferries across Elliott Bay.You will enjoy the beauty of the Bay and if you are lucky, the dolphins will playfully escort you.

A great place to stay is the Italian Renaissance grand hotel called the Fairmont Olympic. Built in 1924, this beautiful hotel is the only five diamond hotel in the area. It plays host to literally every social event in Seattle, including most weddings. The opulent lobby, with its marble columns and huge crystal chandeliers is the best place in Seattle to celebrity watch. While I was there a certain Lama visited a certain rock star in his suite. The rooms are very tasteful and elegant, but not large. You may want to treat yourself to a suite. The hotel offers a spa, several incredible restaurants (the chef is fantastic) and impeccable service. The location couldn't be better. You can walk to all major attractions and shopping, or arrange to use the hotels town car.

Seattle is a fun-filled, artistic haven. The people are warm; the food is great; the scenery is fabulous. Give yourself a treat and visit this lovely city soon.

The Little Old Lady: Pasadena

By James Gilbert Pynn

Even if you're not a big fan of the Beach Boys, I bet it's hard for you to not sing along or tap your foot when they all hit the harmonies to "Little Old Lady From Pasadena." Of course, it was a hit for Jan & Dean, those purveyors of all things surf related, first -- but I digress. The song is couched in the history of Pasadena, California that few people know about.

So it happened that as families fled from the starvation and desolation of the Dust Bowl of the Twenties, Thirties, and Forties, they made their way to California to settle in sunny Pasadena. During the Fifties and Sixties, when many of these transplants began dying, it became folklore that the husbands would die off before their wives, leaving the widows to drive around in their husbands' cars.

It became something of a phenomenon in Southern California for car salesmen to pitch cars with something to the effect: "This car was owned by a little old lady in Pasadena, who only drove it to church on Sunday." Hence, it was a barely-used car in excellent condition. Of course, the song turns that perception around, casting the "Little Old Lady" as a drag racer, firing her Super Stock Dodge up and down Colorado Boulevard.

The little old lady (and Jan & Dean) aside, Pasadena has managed to hold its own against its renown and infamous neighbor to the south: Los Angeles. In fact, it has shaped itself into a haven for artists and engineers alike. Between the students at Caltech and the California Arts Club, the city has a rich selection of cultural and artistic organizations.

And certainly, there is the Tournament of Roses Parade and the affiliated Rose Bowl. When it comes to the college game, the Rose Bowl is considered the "Granddaddy of Them All." Although Los Angeles tends to take the lion's share of notoriety and prestige, most people who know a thing or two about Southern California know the real class and history reside in the city that made the little old lady famous. The only way to know for yourself is to scour the Pasadena hotels, book a room, and get here as fast as your Super Stock Dodge can go.

Mississippi Cruise Options Abound, If You Know Where To Look

By Anthony Herbert

The river cruise has become a very trendy kind of vacation today, and especially so on the Mississippi. Whether it is just for a short few hours, for a week or even a month, a boat cruise can be a very exhilarating as well as tranquil holiday.

There are big differences in terms of the length of possible Mississippi river cruise itineraries. You may be navigating just for half a day as part of a mainly land-borne voyage, or you may spend weeks on the river and visit more than one state and several towns and cities.

As you may well know the Mississippi river is over two thousand miles long and is navigable for most of its course by cruise ships, so there are very different trips that can be made, from the swampy delta of Louisiana to the wooded landscape of Minnesota.

There are different types of vessels that you can take on a Mississippi river cruise, from luxuriously refurbished steamboats of old to newer self-catering houseboats and small modern motor yachts.

Paddleboats are probably the most iconic and representative craft for Mississippi river cruises, and it is in fact a truly remarkable experience to voyage on one of these refurbished grand ladies of the nineteenth century. But it is not the only way to navigate on the Mississippi.

Special activities also abound on Mississippi river cruises, with parties, singles events, civil war commemorations, and business conferences all being part of hat is possible. You can even rent a paddle boat as a marriage venue, if you are so inclined!

A lot of cruises are topical. For instance, there are Mississippi river cruise packages specializing in recreating the showboat atmosphere of the 19th century, and others that are more geared towards the area's significance for music, especially Bluegrass and Jazz.

If you take a longer trip, you will be able to fully immerse yourself into the atmosphere of Mississippi river cruises and will travel one way between two different destinations. Shorter trips will be round trips, but they will be just a engrossing.

Mississippi river cruises are also for all budgets. You can get a no-frills transport and eat cheaply onshore, or even hire your own small boat. But if you are so inclined, you can also travel on the more luxurious boats and enjoy a very lavish holiday.

There truly are Mississippi river cruises for all interests and budgets. If you research the subject further through the Internet you will soon have all the needed information to choose the right Mississippi river cruise for you.

Carp Fishing Bait Secrets Of Using Robin Red!

By Tim Richardson

Robin Red is a carp bait additive that has had an incredible effect on carp catches for decades, but its recipe and how it works is surrounded by controversy and relatively few carp anglers use it to its full potential. Discover some clues about it and its very effective use here...

Robin Red is an original formula from Haiths based in Cleethorpes UK. Included in their best-selling items are these well-known bait ingredients: Hempseed, Carpticle Mix, Multi Mix, Super Red, Prosecto Insectivorous, Robin Red, Red Factor, Nectarblend, soft Bill and Red Band. Having many years in producing leading specialist bird foods, this experience and such products and many others have been extremely productively applied to catching carp!

Robin Red is a legendary additive and has been known to transform poor catch results instantly. Many of the bird food items mentioned previously have been incorporated into bird food based baits and have been ideal having such digestible and open textures to deliver the stimulation and attraction of Robin Red in baits extremely efficiently. Robin Red is available from endless bait companies but my advice is before you go buying loads, get a small sample from hinders first and them you will be better placed to judge if a bait company product is at least near to the real thing, is the real thing or an outright fake; but only your actual fishing results on each of these will truly tell you what is best to use of course!

The popularity of Robin Red is so great that Im sure that at times in the case of making your own homemade boilies, that if you do not use Robin Red in your bait, it will likely as not be the only carp bait in the water that does not include it! Not using Robin Red can actually be a good thing as carp are so familiar with it on busy very hard-fished carp waters that it could well act as an indicator of potential danger! You might find out a bit more about it and choose to use a component of it instead, or use it in very low levels, this works well winter summer or fall...

Ways to incorporate Robin Red and apply it in homemade baits, spod, method, particles, pellets and boilies mixes are legion. Just dampen your boilies using a mixture of liquid foods and Robin Red... Or try pre-soaking your pellets in any liquids you like and add Robin Red to produce super ground baits, method mixes or spod mixes for example for both winter and summer use.

So exactly what is Robin Red; after all it certainly colours up the water attractively and even stains your hands a distinctive red?! The recipe of Robin Red is shrouded in mystery, controversy and endless speculation, and perhaps all you can say for certain, is that is does not contain Carophyll Red, (but this does not exclude it containing cantaxanthin perhaps...) Robin Red certainly does contain many bioactive components and substances, including antioxidant pigments (plumage colour enhancing agents highly stimulatory to carp!)

Why not save yourself a fortune in bait costs and try making your own homemade baits for the first time using a mix of semolina, soya flour with added robin red? Try boosting your pellets by just adding water and adding neat robin red and mixing thoroughly; this will cloud the water very red too, (wash your red hands after use!) One easy to use product incorporating Robin Red is Haiths super Red which can be used neat in PVA products and contains the following:

Super Red has aniseed oil, teasel seeds, crushed Carpticle mix, crushed hempseed, Red Factor, robin Red, peanut granules and crushed tiger nuts. This combination is only one of countless others you could try in making your own boilies, pellets and ground baits and to maximise this and more and to save yourself an fortune in bait costs why not now read on...

Planning is a crucial key to any vacation. Knowing where to start the planning is also helpful. Let?s start with airfare. Airfare should be the first thing that you should look into. It gives you the base of what your travel expenses will be. If done correctly you can save a lot of money. Some people just look at the round trip cost and do not ask about anything else. But there are many more packages that are available. Your local travel agent might be able to get you the airfare and accommodations all in one package. Some can include travel within the country also.

Accommodations are another great way to save money. If you have family of friends that live in Mexico, ask them if you can stay with them for all or part of your stay. If you do not, there are many nice places that you can stay and still keep your budget in tact. You can plan to do anything from camping to staying at a luxury resort, depending on your budget of course. Most travel agents can offer you great package deals on hotel accommodations, that may even have the airfare included. Most hotel packages will include a free breakfast for you, thereby saving you a little on your dining expenses.

Dining will always be a priority when traveling. There are many ways that you can save and still eat some of the best food the country has to offer. Once you are there, the local people will also be more than happy to assist you finding cheaper dining solutions.

Fresh produce markets are also readily available. Your travel agent can help find the exact locations of these markets to help save you with the cost of dining out. They will gladly explain their cultures and why they eat certain foods. Their diets are a lot different than other countries and by doing this it will help take the strain off of your wallet. Just make sure that you wash your vegetables thoroughly. That is a good practice no matter where your destination is.

Traveling will be an essential once you get there. As a safety precaution, do not take any taxi that is not provided to you buy your hotel or travel agent. Buses are one of the safer and less expensive ways to travel. The locals are very familiar with public transportation. They can help assist you by informing you of the departure and arrival times of their public bus system.

Speaking of busses, you may want to consider taking a bus when traveling into the country. Some of the major bus lines such as Greyhound offer travel straight into the country. This could make your whole vacation more affordable for you.

With some careful planning any size budget can be arranged for an enjoyable trip to beautiful Mexico. Do that and you?ll never look back years later wishing you had just taken the time to figure out how you could do it and later have those Mexican vacation memories.

Nicks Waterfall House

By LJ James

In the Heart of the New York Catskill Mountains, there is a place called Nicks Waterfall House. I have been there many times and it has become one of my favorite places of all time to ride to.

There are times when the stress of our lives and jobs can get even the best of us a little down. If you are a straight lace citizen you go to a Doctor and get some pills or maybe see a shrink. If you are a Biker you hop on your Motorcycle get the motor running and you head out to a place like Nicks Waterfall House.

It does not matter where you are or what direction you come from. The ride threw the NY Catskill Mountains is going to relax the stress away from the depths of your very soul. As you ride to Nick's threw long winding roads up over and into the heart of some of the worlds most majestic Mountains, with the Sun shining down on you and the fresh Mountain air filling your lungs you will start to get a feeling of what one can only describe as pure joy.

As you get near Nicks Waterfall House located on Route 990v, Gilboa New York 12076, either alone or with a group of friends. You will feel as if time and space are no longer a factor in the Universe, and it only gets better from there! As you ride in the first thing many think is they have reached some old time lost resort, but have no fear Nicks is a Biker bar.

When you walk threw the front door you will no longer have any doubts you have arrived at the right place. If Nick is not there to great you himself, there is a good chance he is in his large kitchen cooking up some classic Biker grub. I recommend the first thing you do is order an Ice Cold Beer and go sit by the large windows over looking a Waterfall that looks as if it was stolen from the year 1492. If there is any stress or negative emotions left in your body after the ride to the Waterfall House after only a few minutes watching the water fall down and roll over the rocks it will soon have all washed down stream.

Then it is time to meet the locals, grab another Beer and maybe some of that great food (My favorite is the Waterfall House Cheeseburgers) or maybe shoot a game of pool. The crowd at Nicks is a mix of friendly Bikers, locals and good ole boys. This is a place to exchange stories and Adventures from the road. Often the sharing of stories can go on for hours.

It is easy to have what some may call too much fun at Nicks Waterfall House but with rooms up stairs starting at only $25 a night, there is no reason to worry! Now I want to make sure that you know when I tell you there are rooms at Nicks you understand these rooms where created for road weary bikers. If you bring your old lady with you make sure she is a real biker Chick because Nicks is no Yuppie bed and breakfast! It is a real bikers, biker bar and what you get when you rent a room from Nicks is a communal living room a bed to sleep in and a shower to wash off the road dust! One other thing you get from a night at Nicks is a renewed Spirit of Adventure and a willingness to face what ever maybe up around the next bend in your life!

I have many local Bars that I think of as home and I love to go to and cut loose, but when I hear that call of the road it is often telling me it is time to go to Nick's Waterfall House!!!

For more info or directs call 607-588-9891 and ask for Nick.

Quebec City: A Delightful Surprise

By Chris Linch

Visiting Quebec City feels like visiting a city in Europe. It's perched on a cliff high above the St. Lawrence River, and still retains its original city walls, giving it an ancient aura. It has been the capitol of the region, first as the capitol of New France in the 16th century, and now as the capitol of the Quebec province, for 400 years.

Quebec was founded by the French in order to stake their claim on the new world. It is situated on cliffs 200 feet high above the St Lawrence River, giving it stunning views of the countryside and the nearby Laurentian Mountains. Under French rule, the fur and lumber trades flourished. The French lost the city to the British in 1759 and most of the French Nobility returned to France. The French were able to maintain their language, religion and culture, however. The city saw a huge Irish influx during the Potato Famine of 1850. The ships had to be quarantined at Grosse Ile due cholera and typhus outbreaks among the immigrants, however, and many died. Those that didn't survive the disease or the journey are buried there. The city remained under British Rule until 1867 when the Dominion of Canada was formed.

French is the official language of Quebec although virtually everyone speaks English and most menus and signs are printed in both languages. Outside of Quebec City, some knowledge of French is helpful.

Getting around Quebec is very easy. Pretty much everything a visitor is interested in is in the Old Town (Vieux-Quebec). The Old Town is divided into two parts, the Haute- Ville (Upper Town) which is the walled part of the city at the top of the cliff, and the Basse-Ville (The Lower Town) which is the part under the Haute-Ville to the river. (I told you it was easy). You can get from one part to the other by a very steep set of stairs, or by the funicular.

The most recognizable landmark in Quebec City is the Chateau Frontenac, the huge historic hotel that overlooks the city. The Chateau dominates the skyline with its castle like architecture, and is the scene for many events. Legend has it that it is the most photographed hotel in North America.

Walking is the way to get around the Old Town. It's a small area and you don't want to miss any details of the old buildings or the charming little shops. The streets are narrow and cobblestones are uneven though, so wear good shoes.

Getting on a Bermuda Cruise

By Charlie Reese

The island of Bermuda has many charms and is a terrific destination for water sports, golf, and historic sights or just lazing on the pink sands. Several companies offer cruises to Bermuda, so you get a great vacation on a luxury cruise ship and on the island. By the time you reach your destination at Kings Wharf, you will feel pampered and rested.

Norwegian Cruises run a 7-Night cruise from New York City on board the Norwegian Dawn, a ship with a choice of 12 restaurants, 9 bars and lounges and 3 swimming pools to relax in. There is also a fitness center and spa, a theatre and a casino.

The Royal Caribbean line has years of experience in the cruise industry and their Bermuda cruises combine an elegant lifestyle on ship with sightseeing on the way to the island. The 5-Night Bermuda Cruise goes from Baltimore, Maryland on the Grandeur of the Seas, a ship that deserves its name. Passengers can enjoy the spa, and a selection of six whirlpools. For the more active, there is an outdoor running track.

Another 5-Night Royal Caribbean cruise leaves from Cape Liberty, New Jersey. The ship is the Explorer of the Seas and it is one of the largest ones in the fleet with a capacity for 3,114 guests. In addition to the usual amenities, there is an ice skating rink and a rock climbing wall. The ship is also proud host to the University of Miami Ocean Lab, a facility for the study of oceanography.

The 6-Night Carnival Cruise Line cruise to Bermuda is on board the Carnival Miracle, which departs from New York City. Passengers can visit Newport, Rhode Island on route and enjoy the cruiser's casino, spa and nightclubs.

The Costa Cruises Line organizes cruises from Quebec, calling in at Charlottetown, Boston, New York City and Port Canaveral on the way to Bermuda. This cruise to Bermuda is for 13 nights and is on board the Italian ship, Costa Atlantica.

There are plentiful sightseeing and leisure opportunities for passengers once their ship has docked. The largest city is Hamilton, where there are several museums and examples of fine architecture. The Anglican Cathedral is well worth a visit and there are lots of shops and markets to browse in. The former presence of the Royal Navy has left behind several forts to explore and there are beaches to watch the world go by. St. George is a small town that has historic sights and an interesting past, being the former capital of the island.

Visiting Amsterdam On A Budget

By Jetse Holland

One of many people's dream is to travel. Amongst the travelers, many of them want to visit Amsterdam, in Netherlands at least once. The city is famous for its history as well as for its present active night life.

If you are on a small budget, you'll probably want to find the cheapest places to sleep in Amsterdam Netherlands. The good news is that you can find such good offers, but you have to start your search very early, in order to benefit from those special offers.

There are several cheap hotels in the central area of Amsterdam. They are suitable for people who want to make the most out of their vacation and visit as many touristic objectives as possible. Bema hotel and Ibis hotel are only two examples of inexpensive but comfortable lodging.

If you don't mind sharing your room with strangers, you can choose to stay in a hostel type accommodation. The main inconvenient in staying in a hostel is that you are not allowed inside during the day. Amsterdam offers a few such possibilities, and you'll save a lot of money, which you can use for visiting more museums or getting more presents and souvenirs for your friends.

Although they are situated in very old buildings, many hotels in the central area of Amsterdam have been renovated, so they offer modern conditions. Some hotels were bought by foreign investors, who are now advertising to tourists from they native country. Such hotels are usually cheap. An example is Bema hotel.

Enjoying a cheap trip means that you have to take care of many additional things, not only finding inexpensive accommodation. Transport means are very important, as you won't want to spend your money on cabs. Study a public transportation map of the city before booking your hotel.

Amsterdam canals are ideal for romantic lovers enjoying their honeymoon. There are small boats you can take for a ride, or larger ships which are public and fairly inexpensive. Too bad the weather is windy almost all year round, so take care to have some warm clothes inside your luggage.

Elephant Polo: The Sport of Kings

By Christopher Linch

Elephant Polo. The name alone conjures images of romance and glory. I will not rest until I see a game. A variation of standard polo, the game take place using elephants instead of horses, (as one might surmise from the title). I can only imagine the chaos that results. The home of the game, and the World Elephant Polo Championships is Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge in Nepal, but matches can also be found in Sri Lanka, India and England. While New York has a team: "The Blue Elephants", the current champions are England's own "Air Tuskers".

Basic polo equipment is used, although the mallet is modified to reach from the back of the elephant to the ground, some six to nine feet. The field or "pitch" is shorter than a standard polo field (the reasons for this will be discussed in a moment). Due to the difficulty in steering perhaps, each elephant has two riders. The first is the "mahout". Familiar to us from Rudyard Kipling novels, this is the guy who rides on the elephant's head and encourages both movement and direction. The second rider actually plays the game by whacking the ball and calling out directions to the mahout.

As one would expect (and indeed, pay for) several differences to standard polo are immediately apparent. For one thing, elephants are not aerodynamic. They do not turn well, and frankly, they do not care for running as a general rule. This explains the shorter pitch mentioned above. The game can move glacially slow. Particularly if one of the participants steps on the ball. This requires a shovel for retrieval as it will be buried several inches into the turf. In addition, the ball is often lost, hidden behind and under the mounts legs. This is part of the attraction for me. I enjoy sipping cool drinks watching grown men make asses of themselves.

As proof of this, the game re-emerged about 26 years ago reportedly after a bout of heavy drinking by the owner of Tiger Tops and his friends. The game enjoyed some popularity during the British Colonial period in India but fell into disfavor. Celebrity players include Ringo Starr, Bryan Ferry, Steven Seagal, and the late Sir Edmund Hillary.

The game is played under the auspices of the World Elephant Polo Association (and yes, you can get a polo shirt!) which governs the play in Nepal and Thailand. The rules regarding elephant welfare are strictly enforced. Tournaments are not lengthy, and generally are played for charity once a year. Other prizes eagerly anticipated include the coveted Best Dressed Team Award.

The tournament takes place at the end of November and early December.

The championships are usually scheduled at the end of November and beginning of December.

Choosing The Best Knife For Your Outdoor Sport

By Ethan O. Tanner

There are diverse sorts of knives accessible, and just like with many other tools, if you don't have the proper one, it's bound to create issues. A professional quality knife will hold up for a lifetime with little upkeep. Here are some guidelines for picking out a proper knife for your outdoor sport.

The majority of hunting knives are designed for skinning. If you would like your knife to be favorable for skinning, the primary thing you should note is the blade form. You want a rounded or drop point so that when you are "ripping" the skin, the point of your knife will not dig into the meat. Also, you'll likely want a nonmoving blade knife, as folding blades have too many crevices to trap blood and mess in.

Deciding on a knife for camping can be difficult because you need a knife with versatile functions. You may need this knife to prepare food, trim branches, amend gear, as well as a hundred other purposes. On these grounds, you'll frequently notice that a Swiss army knife or multi tool may satisfy your needs best. Also, you may prefer to include a saw, hatchet, or machete in your pack prior to leaving for harder cutting jobs.

You should probably obtain a fillet knife for fishing. A fillet knife is well constructed for cleaning fish, and it can cut fishing line well, another critical chore for a fishing knife. There are also electric fillet knives for the fisherman that is constantly catching umpteen fish. If you plan to fish in salt water, be confident that your knife is designed to defy the corrosion of saltwater.

Trappers will commonly want a skinning knife, much equal to a hunting knife. A fixed blade or a foldable knife will work equally well; this would be a first choice of the sportsman. Tougher tasks are normally completed with an axe, so a second knife isn't usually required.

A boater's chief motive for a knife is cutting line. You'll want a sharp knife that is convenient and promptly deployed, in case you need to cut a line quickly. Make certain that the knife will stand up to water, too. It is apparent that each outdoor sport calls for a particular knife. Purchase a quality knife and your undertakings will be easier and a quality knife will often be handed down to your kids.

You Can Get Cheap Honeymoon Cruises

By John Ledger

Living your honeymoon aboard a cruise is a double-unforgettable experience; unfortunately, people have the wrong idea that honeymoon cruises are just too expensive. You can save money by keeping in mind these cheap honeymoon cruises tips.

You may know that cruise lines have special honeymoon packages with "gifts" and extras for the couple. Each of these packages in different lines will have a different cost, so you should start by collecting price info and choosing one that fits better your budget.

Although these honeymoon specials may look awesome, remember that in the end this is all about you and your wife/husband, so you really don't need fancy stuff.

After that, you should start looking at economic packages. All cruise lines offer different packages for the journey, all of them include food and drinks (except alcohol). The choice is obvious: packages that are affordable and give a cheap honeymoon cruise experience.

For example you would avoid special packages that arrange a dinner at a luxury restaurant inside a ship, and instead spend the night hugging each other while looking at the stars and talking about the exciting new life to live.

If you want to spend time outside the room a lot of time and go to parties, you shouldn't spend too much money on the room. A basic deck room could be the perfect setting for passionate romance!

When selecting a place to visit, the best idea would be to choose a departure point close to home. Compare the expenses of a car travel from inside the US to Florida, to the cost tickets to Europe for a Mediterranean cruise. And you'll see what I mean.

Finally, if you want a cheap honeymoon cruise, you should know that the best time to travel is during low season as you'll find lowered prices. Alternatively you can also find last minute cruises, though they don't allow for much planning.

Think Ahead When Going On Vacation

By Jason King

As the seasons get colder more people are looking for warmer climate to take a vacation. If you plan ahead you can make your travel arrangements move effortlessly and smoothly. Your whole travel experience will be a good one for you and everyone else with a bit of organization.

The first thing you should do is sit down with the people you're going on vacation with, whether it's a group of friends or a spouse, and talk about all the places you would like to go. If you're traveling on a budget, remember that going abroad is more expensive, and have additional payments once you arrive at the destination, especially if you have to exchange money. How long you want to go away for, and when you want to go should be discussed as well.

Once you have decided where and when you want to go you can go online or to your local travel agent, and get information on your hotel or villa options. If you prefer to do your research on the Internet, sites like Travelzoo, Sherman's Travel and Booking Buddy can compare multiple airline prices and offers so you can be sure to get the best deal, making travel arrangements easier.

You can even call the hotels and find out what they offer. Compare prices for several days and check to find out when the best deals are. To find the best prices on flights, don't travel on a weekend or holidays. If you can, mix up the days to see what provides the best offer.

Once you know where you're going and how you're getting there the is easy. Packing should be a walk in the park. You can easily pack for several days and only bring one bag per person.

Make sure you pick up a map of where you'll be staying and have made travel arrangements for while you're in the area. Ask about local transport, whether you plan on using taxis, local buses or driving.

If you have the time and inclination to do and see many things, keep a list of things you want to see and how much they cost. And if you're the type who just wants to lay around on the beach improving your tan, don't forget some sunscreen.

The population of Spain doubled during the twentieth century due to the spectacular demographic boom in the 1960s and early 1970s. The birth rate then plunged by the 1980s, and Spain's population became stagnant, its demographics showing one of the lowest sub replacement fertility rate in the world, only second to Japan's.[citation needed]. Many demographers have linked Spain's very low fertility rate to the country's lack of any real family planning policy. Spain is the Western European country that spends the least on family support (0.5% of GDP). A graphic illustration of the enormous social gulf between Spain and the other countries of Europe in this field is the fact that a Spanish family would need to have 57 children to enjoy the same financial support as a family with 3 children in Luxembourg.

In emigration/immigration terms and after centuries of net emigration, Spain has recently experienced large-scale immigration for the first time in modern history. According to the Spanish government, there were 4,145,000 foreign residents in Spain in January 2007. Of these, well over half a million were Moroccan while the Ecuadorians figure was around half a million as well. Romanian and Colombian populations amounted to around 300,000 each. There are also a significant number of British (274,000 as of 2006) and German (133,588) citizens, mainly in Alicante, Mlaga provinces, Balearic Islands and Canary Islands. Chinese in Spain are estimated to number between 10 to 60,000, and South East Asian groups such as Filipinos -whose country was a former Spanish possession- created a small community in Spain. Immigrants from several sub-Saharan African countries have also settled in Spain as contract workers, although they represent only 4.08% of all the foreign residents in the country.

During the early twenty first century, the average year-on-year demographic growth set a new record with its 2003 peak variation of 2.1%, doubling the previous record reached back in the 1960s when a mean year on year growth of 1% was experienced. This trend is far from being reversed at the present moment and, in 2005 alone, the immigrant population of Spain increased by 700 000 people.

Currently Foreign population in Spain Year Population % total 1981 198.042 0,52% 1986 241.971 0,63% 1991 360.655 0,91% 1996 542.314 1,37% 1998 637.085 1,60% 2000 923.879 2,28% 2001 1.370.657 3,33% 2002 1.977.946 4,73% 2003 2.664.168 6,24% 2004 3.034.326 7,02% 2005 3.730.610 8,46% 2006 4.144.166 9,27% 2007 4.519.554 9,99% 2008 5.220.600 11,3%

According to the Spanish government, there were 4.5 million foreign residents in Spain in 2007; independent estimates put the figure at 4.8 million or 15.1% of total population (Red Cross, World Disasters Report 2006). According to residence permit data for 2007, around 500,000 were Moroccan, another half a million were Ecuadorian and Romanians, 260,000 were Colombian. Other important foreign communities are British (8.09%), French (8.03%), Argentine (6.10%), German (5.58%) and Bolivian (2.63%). In 2005, a regularization programme increased the legal immigrant population by 700,000 people. Since 2000 Spain has experienced high population growth as a result of immigration flows, despite a birth rate that is only half of the replacement level. This sudden and ongoing inflow of immigrants, particularly those arriving clandestinely by sea, has caused noticeable social tensions.

Spain currently has the second highest immigration rates within the EU, just after Cyprus, and the second highest absolute net migration in the World (after the USA). This can be explained by a number of reasons including its geographical position, the porosity of its borders, the large size of its submerged economy and the strength of the agricultural and construction sectors which demand more low cost labour than can be offered by the national workforce. In fact, booming Spain was Europe's largest absorber of migrants from 2002 to 2007, with its immigrant population more than doubling as 2.5 million people arrived.

Immigrants from the European Union

Immigrants from the European Union make up a growing proportion of immigrants in Spain. They mainly come from countries like Romania, the United Kingdom, and Germany, but the British case is of especial relevance due to its magnitude. The British authorities estimate that the real population of UK and Canadian citizens who move to Spain from Canada or are living in Spain is much bigger than Spanish official figures suggest, establishing them at about 1,000,000, about 800,000 being permanent residents.

In fact, according to the Financial Times, Spain is the most favoured destination for West Europeans considering to move from their own country and seek jobs elsewhere in the EU. Must be the Weather!

Blue Mountains Australia

By Mike Williams

The famous mountain range west of Sydney Australia is called the Blue Mountains.Nowdays Sydneys urban sprawl has pushed up to the base of the edge of the mountain range near at penrith and also in the the hawkesbury areas.

The mountains start semi officially about 50 kilometres west of the city's centre. The Blue Mountains national park begins on the western side of the Nepean River and extends in the west all the way to the Coxs River.

The mostly sandstone plateaus and deep gorges can descend to over 700 metres can also rise at its highest points to over 1,000 metres above sea level. Most of the Blue Mountains is listed in the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site which consists of a conservation area a well as seven national parks.

The rough perimeter of the Blue Mountains encompasses the City of Hawkesbury, the City of Blue Mountains, the City of Oberon and with its most westerly city being the quaint Lithgow.

Of course the koori tribe were inhabiting the Blue Mountains areas prior to the "discovery" by white settlerrs from the united kingdom. One famous example of ancient aboriginal hand stencil art is Red Hands Cave, near Glenbrook.Nearby are axe sharpening grooves as well.

It is now known that the koori inhabitants used two main paths to move around through the mountain areas. The bilpin ridge was the most often used followed by the Cox`s river. The river paths were easier and lead to the farming area called the kanimbla valley.

Early settlers believed the rugged mountains were not passable due to the rugged terrain as well as the dense foliage they encountered. The governor at the time encouraged the population to think the mountains could not be passed to discourage escape attempts. This mindset worked for several years.

John Wilson who was a former convict claimed to have been the been the first white man known to have crossed the Blue Mountains Ranges. He supposedly lived the local koori`s and returned to Sydney in about 1797 and he had been over 100 miles outside of Sydney. He is not mentioned in most books now days.

J.P.Wilson descriptions of the wild areas he supposedly visited later proved correct to explorers but he was never offically recognised at the time due to perceived class distinctions and the realistic desire of the authorities at the time who did not want to give convicts any hope of escape.Wilson was murdered by koori`s after stealing a local women.

Safely Launch Your Fixed-Keel Sailboat

By Scott H. Stewart

If your sailboat has a keel that pulls up, you might consider yourself lucky. This type of boat can be launched just like you would launch a regular motorboat. But if your sailboat has a fixed keel, it will take some detailed procedures. Remember, keep safety first! With a fixed keel, the trailer has to back down to the end of the ramp to get the boat into water deep enough to float and then be disconnected from the trailer. Your tow vehicle cannot back it down far enough without getting submerged. So you must follow a set of safe steps for your successful launch.

Be sure you have the proper equipment to do the launch safely. Your tow truck needs to be at least as large as a mid-sized SUV or pickup truck. In other words, something fairly heavy. The weight is needed for safety. You must keep all three components in balance, the truck, the trailer, and the boat.

The tow vehicle must not be a front-wheel-drive type. That is because when the weight of the trailer presses down on the rear of the tow vehicle, the front wheels lose traction. Some good tow vehicles are rear wheel drive with manual 4-wheel drive option, all-wheel drive, or a rear-wheel 2-wheel drive.

The most basic of safety accessories you need are a rope and wheel chocks. You need to get a long, strong rope in very good condition. Since this will be used to lower the trailer into the water, the rope must be strong enough to bear the weight of the trailer plus your boat. The rope must be thick enough and in good enough condition. Plan on replacing the rope each season. You also need some good quality wheel chocks with sturdy ropes attached that can be easily yanked out at just the right moment. Do not buy cheap safety equipment. Since you have the money to invest in a boat, trailer, and tow vehicle, then you have the money to buy some high quality tow rope and good quality wheel chocks.

Here is the basic procedure for launching your fixed-keel sailboat:

1. Back the trailer up to the edge of the water.

2. Have the crew place the wheel chocks behind the trailer wheels.

3. Detach the trailer from the tow vehicle. Be sure the trailer's spare tire is mounted at the front of the trailer. This is necessary to hold the trailer tongue up and allow it to roll smoothly.

4. Attach the trailer to the tow vehicle with a long rope.

5. Have the tow vehicle pull forward away from the lake until the rope is taut.

6. Pull the chocks out from the trailer wheels and back up the tow vehicle until the trailer and boat are submerged. Unless there are sandbars, this should go smoothly and the boat will float, thus freeing itself from the trailer.

7. Drive the tow vehicle forward until the trailer is out of the water. Chock the trailer wheels, then back the tow vehicle down to hitch the trailer back on.

If you run into sandbars, you could ask a power boater to assist. Boaters are a friendly bunch, and I am sure it wouldn't take long to find a boater who could pull your boat and trailer out far enough to be in deep enough water. If there is a courtesy ramp you could use that. Tie on some dock lines and pull the trailer and boat into the water.

Wear a life vest or life jacket and stay safe. Leave the beer back at camp and stay safe all day.
