Building An Authoritative Travel Blog

Authoritative blogs seem all the rage at the moment but what exactly is an " Authoritative Travel Blog ?" Well my understanding of the matter is it is a blog that is not only very informative to the readers but that the information comes from authoritative type people in connection with what they are writing about.

Hopefully my articles below will give an insight on travel and travel related experiences from all over the world from many authoritative writers as they have been there and done that.

Articles will be and are published often and this means current travel experiences and up to date places to visit. If you have also visited these places or wish to comment then please do so remembering this blog is intended to family orientated visitors so please be respectful.

I have seen many fears raised through my article site and feel that any traveller today that, for one reason or another, decides against travel insurance then they are possibly being a little short sighted. We do not want our boats to sink but are happy to carry life rafts. travel insurance is a similar idea. We do not wish to ever claim on it but if things go wrong as they sometimes do it is a benifit to have the insurance.

Who Has the Hottest Seadoo PWC Cover

By John A Moore

A Seadoo Cover beauty contest is the last thing I expected to see at a race. All of the racers, including myself are keen to get those covers off and get on to the water! However, a few months before the tournament I mentioned to the organizers that I had started a seadoo pwc cover blog and that seemed to pique their interest. The next thing I knew the organizers included an optional cover contest at dusk on Saturday evening.

The seadoo cover industry is a huge industry. The individual machine manufacturers hope to make up to 50% of their annual profit in brand marked after sales. After market products include covers, stickers, t-shirts, hats, etc. It can be anything that can hold a logo. There are also independent marine cover retailers offer all sorts of covers and can customize them for you. The most successful riders are sponsored by a number of different products and businesses and their covers are covered in different logos. Although loathe to admit it, most riders take their seadoo pwc covers very seriously.

During the Saturday morning races no one mentioned anything to me about the cover contest. I suppose it seemed a bit flaky to some of the racers. After all, this was an athletic competition not a beauty contest. Not only was it an athletic competition in the ordinary sense but an athletic competition with the addition of expensive powerful machines. These types of events seemed in congruous with beauty contests.

Needless to say, no one pre-registered for the cover contest. However, as dusk rolled around and everyone was chatting with the other competitors and their crew the idea of a cover contest seemed to be a fun idea. Some of the guys were saying that they wouldn't enter the contest but if they did their new custom designed seadoo covers would undoubtedly win. As the evening wore on the claims became more insistent even amongst crew. It was decided that mechanics or even friends or relatives could enter the seadoo covers even if the athletes were not inclined to.

We got 4 or 5 contestants immediately and then 2 or 3 others decided to join the fun. The winner was an older guy who displayed his cover like the women do at car shows. It was hilarious. He demonstrated every cord and pocket and even spelled out the name of the manufacturer in a sexy European accent. The custom details on the cover were waves and the rider's last name.

The seadoo cover beauty contest was a blast. People were beginning to talk about the wacky additions they might make to the covers for next year's contest. I think this will be a repeat event at this tournament year after year. This tournament has always been one of my favorite tournament given it's proximity to my home marina. With the addition of the quirky yet popular seadoo pwc cover contest it is now my favorite event of the racing season.

Guide To Greece : What's The Cuisine Like?

By Glenn Beardsley

This part of our guide to holidays in Greece covers the cuisine of the country...

Greece offers many different experiences, landscapes and activities. Famous for its dependable summer sunshine, Greece has many beautiful beaches and a long coastline with many inlets and islands in the Mediterranean, Ionian and Aegean Seas. But it is also noted for its historical sites, natural beauty and nightlife.

Greece is one of the world's top 20 tourist destinations. This southern European country attracts more than 15 million visitors a year, 90% of which come from other parts of Europe (but increasingly, the proportion of visitors from other regions of the world has been growing).

The most popular destinations include the capital, Athens, and the islands, especially Crete, Rhodes and Corfu. Some areas are very tourist orientated, but people seeking a quieter experience can still find places free from mass tourism.

The vast majority of visitors arrive during tourism season, which is April through October, with the peak of the season being July through to August. Outside of this time, most of the country's tourist infrastructure goes into hibernation, particularly on the islands.

The majority of scheduled international flights go via Athens and Thessalonki. But in the tourism season, charter and low-budget flights flying from numerous European cities arrive daily at a range of popular island destinations and smaller mainland cities.

A valid passport is necessary to enter Greece. Citizens of some non-EU countries may also need to obtain a visa, but citizens of the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can stay as long as 90 days without needing a visa.

It's considered a safe country to visit (in terms of occurrences of theft and violence against visitors) and no immunization vaccinations are required or advised prior to traveling there.

Earn Dollars Whilst Travelling on Cruise Ships

By Bretski Tyler

There are many who are craving adventure and wanting to take off from their daily grind. A lot decide to go backpacking, working their away fruit picking or dong bar work. Whilst others are taking advantage of working for the many different cruise ship operators. A major difference is that rather than earning enough money in one destination to go onto the next, people who work on cruise ships are being paid to travel.

The impression that most people have of working on a cruise ship is that for the length of the contract (which is usually around 6 - 8 months) they live a life full of adventure, fun and allot of alcohol and sex. For the most part I can tell you that it is true. Life on a cruise ship is full of those things on a daily basis.

Being part of a cruise ship crew is an adventure where you sleep, eat and breathe the life of being on the seas. The advantages of being part of the crew is for the most part, you get free travel and get to go to some of the most exotic locations in the world and get paid for it, copious amounts of alcohol are consumed and is very cheap (as little as 1 dollar a drink), and you are travelling with allot of like minded individuals who more or less want the same thing fun and great times. Not to mention that there is a hell of allot of room swapping and sleep over's with crew and passengers alike.

Another advantage of working on a cruise ship is that you are paid in cash and depending on what you are doing on the ship as part of your job you can return home at the end of a contract with quite a fair bit of money in your pocket. People who have been doing it for a number of years quite often have bought and paid off houses outright and if you choose to make a career out of it which quite a number of people do, well most cruise directors are often quite wealthy and live the rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

It must be said that life on the seas is not for everyone and there are cases where people have signed on for a contract and have found themselves wanting to catch the next plane home. However, those that do stick it out and are more relaxed have the time of their lives. Not only do you get an adventure, but also you make friends with people all over the world and come home with enough memories to write a book. The other thing to remember is that life on a cruise ship can often be intense including the fun. Cruise ships often work 7 days a week and so you can find yourself having time off rather than whole days off, yet most find their work on a cruise ship a totally enjoyable experience that it is not that much of an issue.

One important thing to consider is that different cruise companies have different levels of freedom or privileges whilst on the ship. Cruise companies such as Disney, which is a Christian Family Values type of Company, can be quite restrictive on their crewmembers. In example I believe that you have to be a non-smoker and alcohol is heavily frowned upon when working for Disney. From what I can tell, the best Cruise company to work for in terms of freedom and rates of pay is Princess Cruises.

If you find yourself thinking that working on cruise ships might be for you either for the money or adventure. It's not a decision one should take lightly. You must weigh up the fact that there is an initial expense that includes getting a full medical, sea safety training as well as travelling expenses to meet up with the cruise ship, after this initial expense, the company generally pays all these expenses including flights to your home country and back if you choose to do another contract. You must remember that signing on means being separated from your friends and family for 6 - 8 months. (Although most cruise ship companies offer very cheap deals for family members to visit). If it still sounds enticing and you decide to take on the experience then you will surely have an experience of a lifetime.

Things All Visitors Should Do When Visiting Del Mar California

By Terry Hunefeld

Del Mar California is a dream town - an upscale ocean-side community just north of San Diego. Within the Del Mar city limits, a quaint historical village serves as a backdrop to a small seaside resort first made famous in the 1930's when Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante and other race horse lovers from Hollywood built the horse race track at the fairgrounds.

1. Where To Shop & Dine

Del Mar's downtown village was developed back in the 1800s. Here you will find upscale clothiers, chic jewelers, eclectic Asian and European importers plus more than 65 other shops, resorts, inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels. Hungry? In the downtown area alone you will find more than 20 unique restaurants of every stripe, many with drop-dead gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean as you dine.

Del Mar Plaza is home of a favorite Del Mar restaurant, Epazote. Epazote is a wonderful place for lunch or end of the day cocktails because it has a sun-drenched outdoor patio with sea breezes and enchanting panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Epazote has something for all appetites with temptations ranging from premium cuts of what they call "Sterling Silver beef" to delicious seafood entrees followed by delicious desserts. The lively bar features an upscale menu - be sure to try their "Shaker Margaritas" - big enough for two. Sophisticated and chic, the 180-degree view of the ocean makes Epazote a great lunch, dinner or nighttime experience. As an added benefit, you can walk back to your hotel or Del Mar Bed and Breakfast after those margaritas.

2. Take A Hike Through Time

If you enjoy a nature hike with phenomenal scenery, Torrey Pines State Reserve is for you, with nearly 2000 acres of natural habitat along the ocean. The reserve was created because this is where the rare and beautiful Torrey Pine tree grows. You will find 6 or 7 trails for hiking, each with it's own brand of awesome views: wind bent Torrey pines, abstract rock formations and lush wildflower displays, all framed by the magnificent Pacific Ocean. Parking Tip: You can park outside the park along the ocean and Highway 101 for free, then walk up the drive into the reserve for a great workout with magnificent views. Take your camera - especially in the spring when fields of wild flowers are in bloom and everywhere you look are fantastic views of the ocean.

3. Up, Up and Away

Thought by many to be one of the best balloon rides in the world, a sunset flight from Del Mar is an extraordinary way to see Southern California. A coastal Del Mar Sunset flight is an unforgettable experience - up there the air is clear, the sun seem to shine brighter and a sense of relaxation overcomes you. You can soar through the sky and glide effortlessly above the hills and valleys - a calm, peaceful and relaxing way to panoramically take in the enormity of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego countryside.

Many describe flying in a hot air balloon as one of the most serene, enjoyable activities they've ever experienced. Sunny skies and heavenly sunsets allow you to experience what it's like to float among the clouds. If you're staying at a hotel in Del Mar, you can experience the views of a lifetime with Skysurfrer Balloon Tours, Magical Adventures or Sky's The Limit Balloon Adventures. Google or Bing! them for more information.

4. World-Class Beaches

Del Mar beaches are very popular because the waves are usually gentle and it's a great place to learn to surf. With more than two miles of sandy beaches and excellent conditions for swimming, body surfing, board surfing, boogie boarding, or just lounging in the sun, Del Mar beaches are a vacationer's delight. A nearby bed and breakfast in Encinitas is located only a block from Moonlight Beach, and is appropriately named the Inn at Moonlight Beach. On some beaches, residents are allowed to bring their dogs and spectators enjoy great games of dog/human Frisbee. No matter what beach you're on, you'll see hundreds of people spending the whole day under the sun with friends and family. The best and most popular beach is at the end of 15th Street - crowded year around with families, couples, friends and surfers. A good selection of Del Mar hotels and inns can be found near the beaches.

5. Pedal Around Town

Historic Coast Highway 101 runs through the center of downtown Del Mar and is one of San Diego County's best cycling routes. Distance bikers start their rides in Del Mar and head either south to Torrey Pines Reserve or north to Solana Beach, Encinitas and Carlsbad. For less intense riders, bicycling is one of the simplest ways to have fun, enjoy the wonderful Del Mar scenery and stay fit and in-shape, especially if you're enjoying the breakfasts at one of the Del Mar Bed and Breakfasts, inns or hotels in town. With great biking weather all year, you can ride up and down quiet residential streets and along the ocean until you're ready for lunch - Epazote anyone?

A Guide to Costa Rica Attractions

By Victor C. Krumm

Costa Rica is a very small Central American country bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. Many who visit find a tropical paradise. It got its name 600 years ago by Christopher Columbus who, when he landed along its Caribbean coast was so enraptured he named the place 'Costa Rica' or the 'Rich Coast'.

In a region often known for its instability, Costa Rica stands alone. Though tumultuous Nicaragua is to the north and Panama is to its south, it constitutionally abolished its military nearly 70 years ago. Today, along with Switzerland, it is one of only two countries with no army. The country is particularly famous for its wide biodiversity. There is an abundance of beautiful rain forests, cloudforests, rugged mountains and, of course, its amazing beaches, all close at hand.

The world-wide economic downturn has proven challenging to Costa Rica tourism, which has been struggling. However, every challenge presents an opportunity and if you are thinking of a vacation, now may be exactly the time to travel Costa Rica. Airfares are cheap and there are some great travel and accommodation bargains. Indeed, the Costa Rica Institute of Tourism (ICT) has put together a website with discount coupons. Simply Google 'visitcostarica.com/crplus' to check it out. And do not forget that lots and lots of resorts and hotels will offer discounts if you just ask.

Costa Rica is particularly famous for its wildlife. Did you know that tiny Costa Rica, only about the size of little West Virginia, has more species of butterflies than in all of the countries on the African continent combined? There are nearly as many different kinds of birds in Costa Rica as in the entire continental United States (and only about 100 fewer species than the entire continent of Europe). The diversity is simply staggering. Nearly one of every five species of plant and animal on the face of the planet is found in tiny, tiny Costa Rica! You are going to find fascinating tropical rainforests or spectacular cloudforests and beautiful rugged coastlines along two tropical oceans. And, as small as it is, Costa Rica has set aside nearly 25% of the country for protected national park and wildlife sanctuaries.

Perhaps you would like to see a volcano. There are over 100 in this little country but only a handful are active. Arenal Volcano is the most active and with some frequency erupts with spectacular shows. Hot springs resorts have popped up nearby and lots of folks sit in the warm waters, tropical drinks in hand, and marvel at the nearby volcano. Just minutes away is Lake Arenal, Costa Rica's largest lake, famed for its great freshwater fishing and world-class windsurfing. Or, just outside San Jose, nearby the international airport, nestled in the cloudforest, is Poas Volcano with the second largest volcanic crater on the planet. My advice is to visit this place early in the morning (before the clouds come in) and on a weekday (because it is packed with Costa Ricans on the weekend). And, by all means, drive to the top of mighty Irazu early in the morning. Only a few miles from San Jose, it is like no place else you'll ever go. Why? Because, on a clear day, you can stand on an active volcano and see the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans at the same time! I love the romance of this place because, just a few months before he was killed, JFK flew into Costa Rica and was greeted with a spectacular eruptive salute. Two greats in awe of one another!

Then there are the Seven Wonders of Costa Rica, selected by Costa Ricans themselves: mighty Arenal Volcano and spectacular Poas Volcano. Little visited Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve with its great plant and animal diversity---including the only butterfly in the world that makes a noise! Halfway to the Galapagos is magnificent Cocos Island, called the "most beautiful island in the world" by Jacques Cousteau, a famous pirate hiding place with huge fortunes buried but never found, and the best large animal diving on the planet. Mount Chirripo is the tallest mountain in Central America and as you climb from its tropical base to its summit, you may think you are in the Andes with its cold glacial lakes. Or, take a pleasant hike to Rio Celeste (Celestial River) where the river magically changes from crystal clear to sky-blue in front of your eyes. Finally, there is remote Tortuguero National Park, with mile after mile of seemingly deserted beaches---until the wondrous sea turtles invade by the tens of thousands to nest.

No vacation is complete without visiting several of its simply amazing beaches. You are going to find nearly 800 miles of beaches: white sand beaches, brown sand beaches, black sand beaches, even coral beaches. Along two oceans. Dozens have been awarded the famed 'Blue Flag' certificates meaning they are the best of the best ecologically. The north Pacific coast is increasingly developed with great resorts, hotels, and golf courses. Meanwhile, the Caribbean coast remains far more undeveloped while maintaining its particular Caribbean flavor. There are very popular beaches (particularly over Easter and Christmas) and virtually deserted beaches. To go from one to another is often just a few minutes' drive.

Here is a partial list of more things to do and attractions to see during the days: 1. Fish for marlin (I recently fought a 450 pounder before releasing it), sailfish, tarpon, snook, and dozens of other denizens. 2. Surf world famous beaches or watch world-championship surfing contests. 3. Raft or kayak in whitewater that will take your breath away or leisurely raft a tropical river with the kids. 4. Golf at courses designed by world-famous designers. 5. Windsurf at Lake Arenal. 6. Bungee jump into deep canyons or at night. 7. Ecotourism. 8. Zipline through tropical forests. 9. Go to a bullfight (where only the bullfighters are allowed to be harmed). 10. Horseback ride in the mountains or along the beaches. 11. Hang-glide. 12. Rappel waterfalls. 13. Take a train ride---in a genuine Swiss train to a genuine Swiss mountain hotel. 14. Visit Corcovado, the most biologically intense place on earth. 15. Scuba or skin dive. 16. Whale watch (Costa Rica has the world's longest whale-watching season). 17. Visit tropical gardens or tour coffee plantations. 18. Bike, hike, rent motorcycles. 19. Hike into the crater of an active volcano. 19. Visit an African wildlife park. 20. Take a photography or eco tour. 21. Take a volunteer vacation. And more!

The capital of the country is San Jose. It offers an abundance of things to do and most of the population (and traffic) is there. It is famous for its lively Latino style nightlife and also boasts plenty of shops and museums and other attractions. It is also home to a particularly impressive national theatre that is definitely worth a visit if you are going to be spending any time in the city. And, at night, San Jose and most of the beach communities provide lots of adult entertainment. Restaurants, cinemas, plays, bars, nightclubs (many, very adult in tone and tenor), casinos, and beautiful, hot women from around the world. Just remember: what happens here, stays here. And, increasingly, there are more and more places to go and activities for gays and lesbians.

Short Breaks In UK, North Wales - The Ultimate Destination

By Arthur Townlands

It is a well known fact that taking short breaks are beenficial, everyone should do this and in the UK this is an easy thing to accomplish. This s a small island, with big history and a brilliant public transport system so short breaks in UK are easy to do, inexpensive if out of season and there is no reason not to do this.

Because I love it so much, I am going to talk about North Wales as being the ultimate UK short break destination. The countryside is dynamic and visiting is almost like being in another country. The language they speak is Welsh, but don't worry, they also speak English. From the moment you enter North Wales the name change and reading town names can be difficult for overseas tourists, but don't worry the locals are friendly.

One of the most beautiful places in North Wales is the Snowdonia National Park, Mount Snowdon is the highest peak in the UK, south of the Scottish highlands. And it is here that Sir Edmund Hillary prepared for is accent up Everest. It is the perfect place for hikers, climber, walkers, mountain bikers and worshipers of natures' beauty at its best.

North Wales has the best beaches in the UK too, these are award winning beaches and the Llyn (pronounced hlin) Peninsula is the home of the Black Rock sands of which dunes are of special scientific interest. This beach is popular for surfers and you can enjoy unbelievable views of Cardigan Bay from here. Lligwy Beach received a Green Coast Award and a 10mps speed limit, so it is the ultimate slow-paced beach to relax on.

A visit to Beaumaris Castle is a must and the medieval town of Beuamaris it quite beautiful. When they say it's all in a name, they mean it in relationship to this town. The name is derived from the French/Norman and it means beautiful marsh. The castle is from the era of King Edward I and it has murder slots (defense for the inner bailey), spy holes, a moat and a drawbridge. Work began on this castle in 1295, continued for 35 years and was never finished, not that you would know, because it is a technically perfect example of a castle of its time, and the best surviving example in the world.

Business through Crafting

By Mara Hernandez-Capili

Ever wanted to start your own business but doesn't seem to know where to start? This article might be of help for those of you itching to earn a few extra bucks. What I mean by this is to fully discover your heart's passion and browse through the inner core of your being. By doing this you will be able to come face to face with your own self and the things that you are good at and the things that you want to do in life. First tip in creating a successful business is to choose a product/ service that is close to your heart.

Crafters are small business people who are able to transform a hobby into a money making opportunity. Crafting for them is doing what they love to do and at the same time earning extra cash for it. Crafting as a business is an excellent business model for people who are on the artistic side- say people, who are very good at using their hands in making unique and quaint pieces.

Upon visiting craft fairs we are welcomed by crafters and their craftworks using their heavenly talents. These craftworks are carefully woven and done by their own meticulous hands which make some of them a pricey commodity. Craftworks can be purchased at low to high prices. The more intricate the details in the craft are, the pricier it is usually represented.

Crafters indeed earn a lot of revenue in doing the thing that they love to do. At craft fairs, crafters and exhibitors usually pay what you call as Registration/ Exhibit Fee in order to show their goods or wares to the spectators. Imagine being able to have fun and earn at the same time. That would be really a fabulous way to live.

Catch a glimpse of your favorite crafts and their makers at a nearby craft fair in your neighborhood.

Mushrooms: Festivals

By Ian Kleine

Indiana holds one of the largest mushroom festivals and car shows in the surrounding states, the Manfield Village Mushroom Festival and Car Show which is most usually held around the weekends of the last week of April. The mushroom festival is a certified family event and a sure crowd gatherer, especially if you have the weekend off for some mushroom gathering fun.

The event registers early, so it is advised that you get your family wagon (don't forget to bring your family of course) up and running and go to the registration site for the events. You can choose from organized mushroom hunts, buying of mushrooms, and the selling of mushrooms at organized auctions. There are cash prizes for the largest hunted mushroom for the day (as long as it is a mushroom, the judges would not care where you got it...so long as it's not illegal).

Enjoy the mushroom you hunt because you can bring it home and make it into a hearty, and delightful meal. Those who find the largest and most mushrooms from everyone also gets to bring home an intriguing hand carved, wooden mushroom walking stick.

The registration starts at around eight to ten in the morning with an eight dollar entry fee. Mushrooms for selling at the Mushroom Auction are open all day, for bidders and sellers near and far. Auctions are held at the Red Barn.

The Mansfield Car Show happens on the second day of the festival, a Sunday, with registrations from eight in the morning up until noontime. Oldies up till the latest models will come parading, so car lovers are bound to find something to pique their interest. There are also shops and vendors setting up arts, crafts and flea markets for the buyer in you. Tours for the Mansfield Roller Mill are open and there are food booths for the gastronomist as well.

The Right Demographics

By Ian Kleine

There is no proper business without the proper trading and the proper people to market it to. Oftentimes, great ideas are thrown in to the slump because of failed marketing and for other reasons as well. It is not sometimes with the proprietor or the entrepreneur but also with the market itself. Why, is there something wrong with the market?

Of course, half of the business depends upon the customer. Upon the market itself. It sometimes is not in your power to manipulate the market, but you sure can manipulate your business to fit your market.

The most common fault most businesses experience is that they do not determine the market type that they are in right now. Often, it's a dive to the unknown, with you not knowing what you're position in the market is. You need determination of self, determination of others and determination of what the current market situation is.

Market situation being the current condition and situation of the customers. This includes certain demands, dislikes, wants and needs of the customers. It is your company, your job, to fulfill those demands and needs. Certainly, include wants in there too. Because you have to set it into the folks out there that they need you, not the other way around.

Check the age group, the demography, everything that can influence the buyer's taste and judgments. Certainly a teen customer would generally be more liberated in spending rather than a tight-middle-aged earner, right? Work this knowledge to your advantage.

Health on Festivals

By Ian Kleine

There's not much to consider when attending a festival for the fair. That is of course, unless you've been doing this for almost the whole part of your life. Managing and carrying your own table or booth can be somewhat distressing, panic-inducing, and hyperventilating. There are a lot of things that could happen while you're at the booth and a lot of things can and WILL happen.

Boredom. The number one enemy of most trade and fair holders. Boredom strikes with little mercy and in a quick fashion. When you have nothing to do in your booth (and oftentimes this will happen, especially on a slow day), when there's no customer, or if generally, nothing exciting happens at all. There's but one thing you can do to quell this away: do something. Anything. At least something that can distract you and your ensuing boredom.

Customer relations. Let's admit that most customers view salespersons and/or people that handle the tables as one with an intellect lower than theirs (probably because people attribute that most sales person barely finish high school. Yes, I'm just pointing out the general consensus. No offense to our hardworking salesmen and women.)

Be at ease. You know who you are, and you know your capabilities. If you do find a customer that is very difficult, and very demeaning with his or her attitude towards you. Step up, but don't overpower. The basic component of tai chi comes to mind, exhaust your opponent with their own energy. Or at least, maybe let unsightly comments pass from one ear to the next.

The usual humidity, frizzy hair, sweat and dankness, and all other things could factor and add up to the weight of irritation and annoyance. You need to suck it up and brave the reality of handling a table. That, or get a friend or companion to join you. It'll halve the problem up.

By Rick Amorey

If you want to make a unique kind of jewelry for yourself or your friends and family members, you will find that one of the best materials that you can use is glass beads. Beautiful and wonderfully exquisite, glass beads offer a lot of diversity when it comes to making handmade jewelry. Learn how to make the pieces that you are interested in below!

You'll find that you can get started with little effort and with hardly any problems at all when you consider making glass bead jewelry. Even people who are brand new to the process can get some handmade beaded jewelry that is wonderfully and surprisingly unique. Below, I present some advice at getting started on making handmade beaded treasures.

The first thing to consider would be what supplies you're going to need. Remember that besides the beads, you will also need some jewelry wire that will let you string them. Other than that, you'll also have to look for accent beads that you might want to incorporate into your jewelry design, clasps and closures (which are also known as findings), as well as wire cutters and pliers that will add that finishing touch to your jewelry.

These supplies are readily available at any craft store in your area, and you'll soon realize that there are a multitude of options open for you. When you go to the fabric or craft store, for example, you'll find that there are also plenty of books on crafts. These will help you decide the design you want; and with just a little bit of work, you'll get the results that will make you happy.

Wanting to make your own glass bead jewelry will of course lead to having to think about which glass beads you'll want to use. This becomes easier if you have already been to the craft or fabric store; you'll already have a fair idea of what you want. So look for the materials that you need, don't compensate, and amazingly crafted glass beads in no time!

How to Sell Well

By Ian Kleine

When you are considering going on that road to selling your crafts at a crafts fair, understand that you are taking a big step forward. Along with the associated risks, and challenges that are involved with this step. There are a lot of things to consider first, in order to systematically sell stuff, categorizes and put all things in proper order, and to mentally prepare yourself for this undertaking. Selling stuff is no easy walk in the park kiddies.

Firstly, immerse yourself in crafts fairs around your locality and even in other places. There will come a time that you will have to move your market and discover new ones and other niches as well. Attend a few fairs and see for yourself, first hand, what is happening inside.

See both juried and non-juried shows, watch how judges rate crafts, see the quality you need to reach in order to deem your craft customer-quality passed. Find out which venue is also most suited for your craft, whether indoors, a fair, or a show or even a booth. Check the pamphlet provided to see the specifications of the fair, so you wouldn't get confused later on when you make big decisions.

Do your research. Find out what the common costs are, what additional costs you might incur, your projected income, actual income from other vendors (if they are willing to disclose it), and profitability margin. Each show and craft fair will charge differently, with the normal ones usually being around 200 dollars to 300 dollars; the more expensive and exclusive ones could reach up to 500 or more. Of course, this comes with more benefits that the people that engage in these types of shows actually are willing to buy more and spend more.

Don't forget to tabulate your material costs, labor costs, permits and licenses needed, and how many of your products are you going to bring to the craft fair (because seriously, you weren't thinking of bringing them all now, would you?)

Tenerife - Island Hopping Gateway To The Canaries

By Tom Baily

When you mention Island hopping the Canary Islands doesn't spring to mind but for those visiting the archipeligo this year there are opportunities to use Tenerife as a jumping off point to the other islands in the area.

If your are planning to head off to the southern resorts of Tenerife such as Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos why not divert to the port instead where you can take a trip to one of the nearby islands on the frequent and inexpensive ferry or catamaran services.

La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma are served by ferry operator Naviera Armas (www.navieraarmas.com).

A high speed catamaran service connects the Gomeran ports of Valle Gran Ray, Puerto Santiago and San Sebastian to Los Cristianos on Tenerife. This is run by Fred Olsen lines (www.fredolsen.es/PublicSite/FredOlsenExpress) who also have a route to La Palma (2hrs) on one of their larger vessels.

Another option is to catch a bus from the airport to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the north of the island. From here you can jump on a ferry to Lanzarote, El Hierro, La Palma, Fuertoventura or Gran Canaria. These services are run by Naviera Armas and they also have routes to Madeira and Portugal. In addition, Gran Canaria can be reached by a catamaran service which is run by Fred Olsen.

Island hopping is a great way to experience the diversity of the Canary Islands, from the hedonistic resorts of south Tenerife, the prehistoric sub tropical rainforests of La Gomera, the spectacular Cumbre Vieja on La Palma or the moon landscapes of Lanzarote.

Dolphins, Pilot whales are just some of the wildlife you may spot when travelling between the islands. And don't forget to take a camera as some of the scenery is spectacular. On Tenerife, Mount Teide rises to 16,000ft above sea level and is often snow capped during the winter months.

Binter Canarias (www.bintercanarias.com) operate scheduled flights between the islands and for those of a weak disposition to the sea this is a great alternative to catching a boat.

Try London Weekend Breaks For Something Completely Different

By Arthur Townlands

As far as exciting cities go, London is one of the more cosmopolitan and happening cities. There is plenty to do, but most of the sights are a tourist trap. However there are also some best kept secrets which not many people are aware of and we are going to discuss some of these in relationship to London weekend breaks.

Although visiting the British Museum has its merits and it is one of the most visited place in London, why not try to avoid the camera clicking crowds and see something really interesting instead. Who wants to see the same old sights anyway?

The Hunterian recently underwent a 3 million revamp, and if you fancy having a look at Winston Churchill's gnashers, this is the place to see them. The Hunterian is a medical museum annexed to the Royal College of Surgeons of England, so if you fancy your history mixed up with the curious and the downright gruesome, it is worth a visit. You will find medical instrument, from centuries ago which look like torture instruments, body parts pickled in formaldehyde and all sorts of strange exhibits.

Not too far from Bromley you will find 22 miles of man-made underground caves. These are the Chilsehurst Caves, and to reach them you get a train from London Bridge. They offer a 45 minute tour of the caves where many people spent their time during the Blitz of London. The tour informs you about the relationship caves have with the Romans, Druids and the Kent Mushroom Co, and quite disconcertingly the guide refers to the world above as "topside".

Another best kept London secret is the "Secret Cinema". This is a society of cinema goers with a difference. It is not about cineplexes, multiplexes, popcorn and slushies. It is about adventure! Joining this group of people may just give you reason to visit London more often than you might normally. As once a month they screen a film in a different but exciting venue. You don't know what film will be shown till you arrive and one of the more recent viewings was the Gus Van Sant film "Paranoid Park" which was eerily shown in an abandoned railway tunnel.

Tips for Traveling the World

By Gary Ardnt

Novices to international travel often ask, what special tips or knowledge should I know before I go traveling the world? While these individuals are correct in assuming that traversing the planet will indeed be different than a Sunday drive through the countryside or a weekend get-a-way to a neighboring state or province, they tend to overlook that the same common sense one employs in day to day life or casual domestic travel will serve them well abroad as well.

One of the most important things to remember when you travel is to watch yourself. A lot of people leave common sense behind them when they go overseas. However, just because you are in a different place doesn't mean safety should go out the window. While tourist areas in most country are safe, you do need to watch out for pickpockets and touts. Make sure you where a money belt and always say no to people who come up to you to sell things.

Budgeting is an important part of travel. You'll have many chances to spend money while you are traveling and if you are not careful, you'll find you constantly overspend. Make sure you create a tight budget before you go overseas so that you can accurately divide up your money. Otherwise, you run the risk of always spending. It's easier it is to spend than it is to save!

That being said, being familiar with your surroundings is perhaps the second most important tip to carry with you when traveling abroad. Try to stay in main tourist areas or on busy and well lit and open streets and throughways. If you need to travel into more "local" spots be sure you go during day time and always with people you trust and who can speak the local tongue if you yourself are not able to do so.

Moreover, it's helpful for you to be aware of the location of all local law enforcement buildings and offices and, if there is one in the country you find yourself in, the location of the embassy of your home nation. Countless world travelers have returned home with stories of both joy and horror that rested or fell on how well a traveler knew his surroundings. So in short, play it safe and stay close to others in your travel party or those your trust.

If you use these tips and advice on your next world travel trip, then you will be able to have a much more enjoyable time. These tips will keep you safe, help you travel easier, carry less, spend less, and interact with the locals more. It's a tall order but one these tips fulfill.

Arenal, an active Costa Rica volcano, is our destination but first there are a couple of photography stops along the way. We go first to the little Tico community of Sarchi where brightly colored, decorated oxen carts are made in an old water powered factory. The second stop is nearby Zarcero, which has, as its focal point, an old wooden church and a double row of lovely topiaries leading up to it. Many memory cards are filled just photographing these two places with the magnificent colours and patterns of Sarchi and the incredible shapes of the topiaries in Zarcero.

The roads in Costa Rica are famous, not only for the magnificent land which they traverse but for their condition. Our driver, Luis, knows that we will encounter many potholes so he is cautious and as a result we are passed by most everything on two or four wheels. Many drivers here, from the ubiquitous taxistas to truck drivers, think they are Formula One drivers. Indeed, reportedly there is a bus driver whose passengers frequently find religion on his overland route.

Lunch in La Fortuna follows and we are now approaching our lodge in Arenal. The road up to the Lodge is a continuous pothole because the rainy season has just ended and most roads are in horrible condition. Our road is unique because it was constructed with crushed lava.

In rounding a curve we come upon a clearing at a river and behold, there is Arenal Volcano! The majority of my group have never been face to face with an active volcano and this perfectly shaped volcano is an awesome sight.

We see that the peak of the cone is shrouded in puffy little white clouds against a cerulean sky. The sight is picture perfect and we stop and everyone quickly descends from the van in the process of attaching cameras to tripods. Some of us wade into the tropical river to capture the incredible image from a different perspective and others are shooting from the riverbank.

Of course being this close to an active volcano could be very dangerous but Arenal is quite predictable, a low risk. The lodge is only one and a half kilometers to the base of the volcano and two kilometers to the top of the cone and needless to say, any activity attracts your attention.

What a surprise that while we are unpacking and settling in, Arenal comes to life again! It roars loudly as smoke and gas shoot many hundreds of feet into the sky and rocks tumble down the slopes. Mantled Howler monkeys hoot loudly following the eruption but we really do not know if they are hooting in protest or howling in support.

While sitting in the lodge dining room enjoying our dinner Arenal speaks again. Everyone had been told of the many photo opportunities in Costa Rica but who would imagine eating dinner and having something like this happen? And this was only our first day of the tour!

For the next two nights most of us get very little sleep as we find comfortable chairs in the common area outside our rooms, mount our cameras on tripods and attach a cable release. I had already decided to use an 80-200mm lens set at 80mm and an aperture of f8, the camera shutter set at "B" for time exposure.

With the activity of the small flare-ups at the cone and the lava flowing down the opposite side I think a time exposure of more than twenty minutes will produce an ugly yellow blob of light, so if there had been no eruptions after this length of time I will close the shutter and start another exposure. Using a cable release makes these exposures very easy and Arenal puts on quite a display while we are there.

Arenal volcano was the first adventure for my photography group in Costa Rica. Everyone is looking forward to the next eight days and the marvelous and exciting photo opportunities they will have. Pura Vida!

The First Ever Rainbow Sandals Event Called Battle Of The Paddle

By Mike Freedman

The evening before the worlds biggest gathering of stand up paddle racers to date, it hit me: This is going to be gnarly!

The beach is decorated like a rock concert will be hosted tomorrow thanks to event organizer Barrett Tester and Pat Huber. The waves are awesome and we are slated to have more of the same in the days to come. A young entry Slater Trout is full of fire and will surely give the big boys a run for their money.

Every one seems so focused checking each others gear out. Chuck Patterson is exceptionally focused because this is his home town, he either needs to go big or deal with the disappointment of facing them the next day. Meanwhile Ekolu Kalam shows up with his board inside of his Hummer.

Patterson has taken advantage of all the latest tech he knows. He applied Monster Paint traction and extremely slippery speed sheen called Extreme Clean. This is all applied to his new carbon fiber race board. He is extremely fit and lost at least ten pounds for this event.

Their where a lot of lighter weight racers showing up and this began to worry Chuck a little. Board size is limited for this event so with all things being equal a lighter racer will have and advantage over a heavier one.

In order to even out the competitive edge the lighter guys had, Chuck needed some nasty wave conditions. Well, he go his wish and laughed all the way to the bank with his prize money! He earned every cent.

The night before the big race all the competitors where practicing well into the night and psyching themselves up. Chuck did his usual, take the dog for a stroll and dream about being number one. This came true the next day.
