Building An Authoritative Travel Blog

Authoritative blogs seem all the rage at the moment but what exactly is an " Authoritative Travel Blog ?" Well my understanding of the matter is it is a blog that is not only very informative to the readers but that the information comes from authoritative type people in connection with what they are writing about.

Hopefully my articles below will give an insight on travel and travel related experiences from all over the world from many authoritative writers as they have been there and done that.

Articles will be and are published often and this means current travel experiences and up to date places to visit. If you have also visited these places or wish to comment then please do so remembering this blog is intended to family orientated visitors so please be respectful.

I have seen many fears raised through my article site and feel that any traveller today that, for one reason or another, decides against travel insurance then they are possibly being a little short sighted. We do not want our boats to sink but are happy to carry life rafts. travel insurance is a similar idea. We do not wish to ever claim on it but if things go wrong as they sometimes do it is a benifit to have the insurance.

Blue Mountains Australia

By Mike Williams

The famous mountain range west of Sydney Australia is called the Blue Mountains.Nowdays Sydneys urban sprawl has pushed up to the base of the edge of the mountain range near at penrith and also in the the hawkesbury areas.

The mountains start semi officially about 50 kilometres west of the city's centre. The Blue Mountains national park begins on the western side of the Nepean River and extends in the west all the way to the Coxs River.

The mostly sandstone plateaus and deep gorges can descend to over 700 metres can also rise at its highest points to over 1,000 metres above sea level. Most of the Blue Mountains is listed in the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site which consists of a conservation area a well as seven national parks.

The rough perimeter of the Blue Mountains encompasses the City of Hawkesbury, the City of Blue Mountains, the City of Oberon and with its most westerly city being the quaint Lithgow.

Of course the koori tribe were inhabiting the Blue Mountains areas prior to the "discovery" by white settlerrs from the united kingdom. One famous example of ancient aboriginal hand stencil art is Red Hands Cave, near Glenbrook.Nearby are axe sharpening grooves as well.

It is now known that the koori inhabitants used two main paths to move around through the mountain areas. The bilpin ridge was the most often used followed by the Cox`s river. The river paths were easier and lead to the farming area called the kanimbla valley.

Early settlers believed the rugged mountains were not passable due to the rugged terrain as well as the dense foliage they encountered. The governor at the time encouraged the population to think the mountains could not be passed to discourage escape attempts. This mindset worked for several years.

John Wilson who was a former convict claimed to have been the been the first white man known to have crossed the Blue Mountains Ranges. He supposedly lived the local koori`s and returned to Sydney in about 1797 and he had been over 100 miles outside of Sydney. He is not mentioned in most books now days.

J.P.Wilson descriptions of the wild areas he supposedly visited later proved correct to explorers but he was never offically recognised at the time due to perceived class distinctions and the realistic desire of the authorities at the time who did not want to give convicts any hope of escape.Wilson was murdered by koori`s after stealing a local women.
